TestWise is a functional testing IDE (Integrated Development Environment) for testers/programmers to develop/debug automated functional test scripts efficiently. TestWise supports the test scripts in the following free and open-source automation drivers:

  Selenium-WebDriver, for testing web apps
Appium, for testing desktop and mobile apps
Watir, which is now an extension of Selenium WebDriver

and syntax frameworks:

  RSpec - (Ruby)
  unittest - (Python)
  Mocha* - (Node.js)
  Cucumber - (Ruby)

If you don’t have pre-determined framework, we strongly recommend Selenium WebDriver + RSpec in the beautiful Ruby language.

Quick Start
-----------
Start TestWise, click 'File' menu -> 'Open Project'
Select c:\agileway\TestWise\samples\demo\demo.tpr (assume installed under c:\agileway\TestWise)

Click 01_login_spec.rb, click the blue triangle icon on the toolbar to run.

Common reasons for failed to run tests
--------------------------------------

As a general rule, you shall sure the test execution working from a command line first.

1. Failed to run, get error "The test script syntax is invalid"

Make sue you have Ruby installed. Go to "TestWise Settings" -> "Frameworks", click "Detect" button.

Solution: use TestWise Ruby Edition, or Install Ruby (see screencast on TestWise site) and add to the execution path in settings. The embedded Ruby distribution, by default, is at C:\agileway\TestWise\interpreters\ruby

2. Testing libraries (gems) not installed

Solution: use TestWise Ruby edition, or install required libraries.

> gem install rspec selenium-webdriver

For any other library used in your scripts, intall them this way.

3. "Unable to find chromedriver."

The full error message might be like this:
"Unable to find chromedriver. Please download the server from
https://chromedriver.storage.googleapis.com/index.html and place it somewhere on your PATH.""

Solution: Follow the instruction to install ChromeDriver, make sure the version matchines your version of Chrome browser.

4. I can run tests from command line, but not in TestWise.

Solution: set the PATH (echo %PATH% on Windows) into TestWise Settings -> Execution -> Execution Path.

5. Error: "unknown error: cannot create temp dir for user data dir"

Reason: Selenium Driver use the temporary folder but failed to do so, due to permission issues.

Solution: Set TEMP and TMP environment variables to a folder, e.g. C:\TEMP, which is writable by the user.
